The Abseil ticket covers the professional guides, safety equipment, and the actual descent. You are responsible for purchasing your own Table Mountain Cableway ticket separately to reach the "base" at the summit. Alternatively, if you are feeling very energetic, you can hike up India Venster or Platteklip Gorge to meet the team at the top.
You won't be left hanging! After you complete the 112-meter descent into vertical space, the experience includes a scenic hike back to the summit. It is a guided walk that takes you back to the Top Station, so you don't need to worry about navigating the cliffs alone. This is why wearing sturdy, closed-toe walking shoes is mandatory for this activity.
No prior experience is needed. The guides provide a full safety briefing and "harnessing up" session before you even approach the edge. You are always double-roped for safety, and the professional instructors have full control over the backup lines. As long as you meet the weight requirements (40kg to 120kg) and are over 10 years old, you can participate.
Your friends and family are more than welcome to watch and take photos for free. The abseil site is located right next to the "big wheel with cables" at the Top Station. There is a designated public viewing area where spectators can see you step off the ledge and start your descent, providing the perfect opportunity for them to capture your "hero shot" with the Atlantic Ocean in the background.
Abseiling is strictly weather-dependent. If the Cableway closes due to high winds or if conditions become unsafe for ropes, the activity will be paused. If your session is cancelled, the team will attempt to reschedule you for another day. If you are leaving Cape Town and cannot reschedule, you are entitled to a full refund (unlike standard cancellations which may incur a fee if done within 48 hours).
